Preamble 

For this year, the Colombian Association of Schools of Engineering (ACOFI) organizes from 4 to 7 October in the Convention Center of Cartagena city Cartagena de Indias, a new version of the International Meeting on Engineering Education ACOFI 2016 (EIEI ACOFI 2016), whose central theme, Innovation in engineering schools: change for the competitiveness and sustainability.

The EIEI ACOFI 2016 will be this time a stage of analysis and reflection on how innovation is promoting competitiveness and sustainable development, as knowledge, creativity and willingness to change are the sources that promote development.

The EIEI ACOFI 2016, is the most important in teaching engineering scenario in Colombia and one of the most recognized in the international sphere, where the socialization of the proposals and experiences of teaching and learning processes, research in engineering education the social responsibility in the education of engineers, the relationship between the university and the productive sector and the state, and its impact on the community, among other important topics, provide elements and opportunities for improvement in our engineering schools.

EIEI ACOFI in 2016, the work and experience of management professors and students from schools engineering and company representatives will be exposed. The interaction will be with deans, professors, researchers, students, government, industry and society. They will be held masterly conferences and panels on engineering education, workshops, exhibition of research developments, meeting deans, student forum and technical conferences and social activities.

The EIEI ACOFI 2016 is a space for trends, experiences and proposals that constitute the true potential of scientific and technological development of engineering, as a contribution to the competitiveness and the local, regional and global sustainability.

Presentation

The present world requires new requirements every day, ranging from basic needs like having potable water, transported, to communicate, to achieve unimaginable technological advances. Engineering is largely responsible for achieving meet those needs. To do this requires creativity, with which should encourage innovation, which translates into entrepreneurship, generating competitiveness and promoting sustainable development in which quality of life is improved. To carry it out should understand current and future conditions, needs to permanently vary the rapid technological advances, constantly invite promote change.

In this respect becomes more important the role of engineering schools because they become the key stage to promote creativity, innovation, competitiveness and change, which context invited to discuss how to teach engineering. In this sense, teachers play a major role because they are the motivators and enforcement viable university-business-state relationship. Engineering faculties are committed to be innovative engineers, based on science and technology, critical thinking and being part of a changing world.

In order to reach innovative processes from engineering schools, should be studied teaching strategies – learning how to do research, how to project from the undergraduate and graduate innovation, competitiveness and change, to make a locality, region or the world a place of development.

General objective

EIEI ACOFI 2016 it is an academic space for analysis and reflection on how innovation is the engine for change that will allow competitiveness and sustainable development and positive impact in society.

• Know and reflect on the work and contributions made by engineering schools in the generation and appropriation of science, technology and innovation for competitiveness and sustainable development.
• Analyze current conditions and strategies that must be entered in engineering education for innovation.
• Promoting the engineering education with the support of institutions of higher education, the State and the productive sector, it is an effective tool for development.
• Discuss as the institutions of higher education, productive and government sectors and society as a whole are essential to ensure that innovation is the promoter of change.

Convention Center Cartagena de Indias 

Located in Gethsemane neighborhood on the Ridge of the Martyrs and a short walk from the Clock Tower one of the most representative and known landmarks of the city.
