Introduction
The recognition of work within the classroom and its relationship with society have become an important and increasingly common element in the training of engineers in Colombia. Drawing projects from classrooms and taking them to actors who are not necessarily related to academia, allows students to confront situations that strengthen their abstraction, synthesis, communication and planning skills that will be critical to their professional performance. Different are the initiatives that have been advanced in this sense, in different engineering faculties of the country. However, these academic exercises remain within the institutions and are unknown by the academic community. In this sense, the projects exhibition will have the best works of engineering students, in order to visualize the advances from the classrooms and reach the communities.
Objective
Recognize the talent of the students in the development of engineering projects in work groups.
Directed to
Students of the faculties, schools or engineering programs, who can present their works independently or with the accompaniment of professors and companies, but in which the participation is mainly of students, to be considered in this category.
Requirements
- The project must be: research product of the work in a seed, social or entrepreneurial initiative product of a working group.
- The group must consist of at least 3 students.
- Mostly the group must be of engineering students.
- The project must have been developed during 2016 or the first half of 2017.
- The group can be made up of students of the same University or students of different Universities.
Submission of proposals
The team must send the proposal of their project within the stipulated dates.
Important dates
- November 1, 2016: The system opens for submission of abstracts.
- June 9, 2017: deadline for submission of abstracts.
- June 16, 2017: Publication of abstracts accepted and rejected.
- June 30, 2017: deadline for submission of the complete paper.
- July 14, 2017: deadline for sending posters.
- July 31, 2017: deadline for authors’ registration.
How to submit your project
INSTRUCTION TO GO UP YOUR PROJECT TO THE PLATFORM
- Prepare a text that contains the following:
- Brief description of the project (200 words)
- Start date – end of project (clarify if it still continues)
- Scope of the project – beneficiary population
- Results achieved
- Future projection of the project.
- After November 1, 2016, access the website acofipapers.org
- Register to the system if you do not already have access to it
- In the “Trabajos de los estudiantes” category, copy and paste the text of the abstract into the appropriate box (you do not need to attach any documents / files at this stage)
- It is very important that all authors of the project are enrolled in this first stage, the system gives the option to add as many authors as necessary
* It is recommended that this process is carried out by the main author of the projectt, because who initiates the process is the only contact between ACOFI and the project to be presented.
Proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria
- The project is a work of application of engineering (Any engineering career)
- The project is innovative
- Team work is evident
- The project is framed within sustainability (social, economic and environmental considerations and impacts are taken into account)
- The project can be continued in the future.
Sample results
The sample of results will be developed under the poster methodology. Each team must present their project in a poster, accompanied by the prototype or physical deliverable of their project if applicable.
In the sample of results must be at least one of the members of the group who will present the project.
Evaluation
An evaluation group will be formed, which will take into account the following criteria to establish the best projects:
- Relevance to engineering
- The project takes into account the elements of sustainability
- Evidence of teamwork, disciplinary or interdisciplinary
- The project has a projection to be continued in the future
- The project solves a social problem or contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of a community.
- The project is innovative.
- Poster content, spatial distribution and aesthetic quality
The evaluation group will review the posters and interact with the participants to resolve concerns or to expand information regarding the project.
Awards
In the end, the best projects will be awarded in the following categories
- Best project: it is the one that brings together the greatest characteristics of the sum of all the evaluation criteria.
- Project with greater social projection: It takes into account the capacity of the project in solving social problems or improving the quality of life of a community.
- Most innovative project at the research level: It takes into account the originality and differentiation of existing solutions.
In the closing day of the EIEI ACOFI will be the awards to the best projects.
