Preamble
The Colombian Association of Faculties of Engineering –ACOFI, in Spanish-organizes your reforms and Conferences aiming to stimulate the commitment to quality on education, research and innovation in engineering and its relationship with society as a whole, as well as to share the experiences of the faculties of engineering.
ACOFI has accumulated an important amount of expertise and a solid trajectory in the development of national events, with the highlights of its National Conferences that for the last 32 years has been the venue for the promotion of the academic endeavors of the faculties of engineering in Colombia, where they have had the participation of experts from Spain, France, Portugal, Denmark, Singapore, South Korea, China, Japan, United States of America, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, among other countries. It has also led forms and Conferences of international level such as The 6th Encounter of Iberian-American of Educational Institutions in Engineering, the 1st Latin American meeting of the CDIO, the 2013 World Engineering Education Forum — WEEF, just to mention the most relevant.
This success and good reception of these events have led to the participation and attendance of universities, international organizations, national and foreign engineering companies and professional associations, gathering more than 35 countries that have met to discuss topics related to the teaching of engineering.
In this context, the Board of Directors of ACOFI has considered of great importance to continue promoting the quality training of our engineers and the face of the expertise of ACOFI in the organization of its events, as of the year 2014 our gathering of faculties of engineering shall be named: ACOFI’s INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION IN ENGINEERING where directors, teachers, students and all of the engineering community will meet to analyze, reflect upon, debating and sharing their experiences on topics related to training in engineering.
Introduction
The faculties, schools and programs in engineering constantly make proposals to improve the training for better engineers: new technologies, alternative ways of teaching, new ways of relating to the industries, the State and the renewed presence in society, among many other topics.
Likewise, topics related to the training of engineers can be considered recurrent: practices in the classroom environment, teachers training on teaching techniques, characteristics of the students, evaluations, measurement of indicators, use of resources, among others, but it should be understood that the context where they develop his ever-changing and all the stakeholders must be willing to address them by always promoting quality.
These situations fostered the transformation that is required in human talent, in the ways of using educational infrastructures and labs and in promoting the use of these elements during training, which without a doubt — in a world with growing limitations of resources and greater demands, required creativity and innovation, to address the development needs of society.
With these elements in mind the EIEI ACOFI 2014 submits for consideration as a central topic “New scenarios in the teaching of engineering,” where academic and administrative directors, teachers, administrative personnel and faculty students, engineering schools, entrepreneurs, governments and society have an active participation to achieve a truly sustainable renovation, oriented towards the training of better engineers.
Objectives
- Analyzing strategies and actions developed in the faculties of engineering that have demonstrated to be successful and sustainable in the training of engineers with a global vision.
- Getting to know and reflecting on the trends in engineering training, associated to the use of technologies, teaching strategies and the relation of engineering programs with basic education.
- Debating about the processes of quality assurance, analyzing metrics, valuation, results and certification elements and their effective incidence in the quality of engineering programs.
- Starting from the study of the experiences of postgraduate programs in engineering, relating with the knowledge offered in universities, the wishes of professionals to increase their knowledge and the industries that will require ever more suitable engineers, establishing effective proposals to achieve programs that have an impact on society.
